The Seed
Understanding Mukhi
Traditional belief
A mukhi is a natural line running from the top to the base of a Rudraksha seed. The count of these lines — from one to twenty-one and beyond — is how beads are classified.
In tradition, each mukhi count is associated with a deity and, in some systems, a planet. These associations come from texts such as the Shiva Purana and the Padma Purana, and from living lineages of practice. They describe what practitioners have long believed; they are not scientific or medical claims.
When choosing, the count matters less than authenticity: a natural, uncut line structure, a solid seed, and documented origin.
